What are the risks of using a TV as a monitor for gaming?

I have a decent gaming laptop that I want to connect to my TV. However, I am concerned about the possibility of screen burn-in, as I experienced it before when I played World of Warcraft and Destiny on a TV. Is screen burn-in still a common issue with modern TVs?
